The number of Gum Base suppliers in the world is quite stable. There are no big ups and downs in this field and the number of options is quite limited. Maybe the last “big news” on this aspect were the disappearence of one of pioneers: “LA Dreyfus”, founded in 1909 and merged with Cafosa on 2005 (already a long time ago!) and the more recent acquisition of the Belgium-based “Eurobase” by the Italian “Ferrero” in 2016.

That’s why when I get news about another player, I want to share them with you. This is the case of “Sweet Gum”, from Brazil (www.sweetgum.com). The company belongs to the RB group and they offer a range if gum bases for different applications (chewing, bubble, non sticking, …). RB Group is specialist on gum rosin, gum turpentine and derivatives (which are ingredietns of the gum base itself).

I think it is interesting to have new players in this market and I look forward to see the development of such new offer!

It seems that (finally) Ferrero has arrived to the chewing gum arena. I received photos of their product, which comes under their well-established brand “TIC TAC”. I guess the product is on sale at least in Italy. I do not know if in any other market as well. I have not seen TicTac Gum myself, so I cannot comment on the characteristics or the quality (I assume it is top class, like the rest of the products of the company – And no, they do not sponsor me!). I just wanted to share with you the picture of the product that I received:

FERRERO & EUROBASE 23/02/2016

This has been one of the most intresting moves in the chewing gum industry for some years.

The Italian giant “Ferrero” (probably you know Nutella, Kinder, Ferrero Rocher or TicTac) acquired the Belgian gum base producer “Eurobase”.

This is a step indicating the interest of the italian company in the chewing gum industry. There have been rumors for some years about this issue (e.g. interest of Ferrero on acquiring Perfetti – the italian chewing gum company) but this is the first real action that can be confirmed. I do not know what will come next but I am sure that we can expect more news in the near future.
