Compressed Functional Gum 21/07/2020

I received a comment on this site mentioning the product “Neuro Gum”, so I went to the website www.getneuro.com  and I see a compressed gum named “Energy & Focus” which contains Caffeine, Theanine, B6 and B12. It claims it provides the right balance between “energy” and “calmness”.

I have not tried this product (I wonder about its taste, chewability, flavor lasting, …) but as it falls within the functional gum category, I am glad to mention it here in this website.

Today i add one more natural gum to the list. This is the one from the Dutch company BenBits. Although this company has a long history promoting healthy gums, I have learned only recently about this natural chewing gum.

Blister with 9 pieces of coated gum with a slight brownish color. It uses, of course, natural ingredients

Caffeine Gum 26/02/2020

It’s been a while that I do not mention Caffeine gum because maybe it is not as trendy as it used to be a few years ago. However, I came across the caffeinated version of one of the top brand worldwide: Airwaves, by Mars/Wrigley. In particular, I have in front of me a pack of nice hexagonal shape (quite unusual!!) coated pieces of caffein gum. Wrigley uses not only the brand “Airwaves” but also the classic “Alert Gum” to market its gum with Caffein.

Let me introduce to you another natural gum containing CBD. This comes from Lithuania and it is made by the company ENDOCA, which specializes in all types and formats for the CBD.

It comes with carton boxes with 10 individually wrapped gums inside. The pieces are not coated and have a brown color, distinctive of the natural gum base that they are made of.

Each gum contains 15mg of CBD.

The company emphasizes a lot the Natural claim in their marketing.

You can learn more in their website www.endoca.com

Natural Gum with CBD 24/02/2020

The company TWO WISE CHIMPS, from UK, presents natural chewing gums in combination with a few different concepts:

  • With CBD. 5mg per piece
  • Caffein (40mg per piece) and vitamin B5
  • Beauty gum: With Selenium, Biotin, Green tea extract and Niacin
  • Charcoal: With 45mg of activated Charcoal

Again , this goes in the direction that I have already commented in the past: CBD, Natural gum base… and it is presented in sleeved blisters with 9 pieces of coated pellets each one.

Chewsy – Natural Gum 20/02/2020

Another of the big trends nowadays, not only when talking about chewing gum, but also in the food industry and even further, is the “natural” claim.

In ISM’20 I found CHEWSY (www.chewsygum.com). Thus gum in produced in China by a UK-based company. It claims that contains only xylitol as sweetener (no sugar, no aspartame) and that it is made using natural gum base (“plastic-free gum base” as they define it). I have some personal issues though, accepting the claim of “biodegradable”. The fact of being natural does not bring automatically the biodegradability. But it would be great if the product really degrades after some short period of time. Please allow me to be a bit skeptical on this matter because the products that have been launched in the market with this claim, have not really succeeded, for one reason or the other.

In any case, good proposal that deserves to be followed, which I will do with interest.

Cannabis Chewing Gum 19/02/2020

This year I visited ISM, as I do since 1997, and once again it has been a source of new discoveries. As a passionate person for functional gums I find in this great exhibition all what i need to satisfy this passion.

Here I want to show you one product that goes in the direction of the CBD trend. Euphoria is the Czech brand and they offer a very broad range of products (chocolate, candy, muffin, tea,…) containing Cannabis. In the case of chewing gum, it is predented in zip-bags containing 3 coated pieces of gum each. It is also presented in blisters with a cardboard sleeve. Each blister contains 12 pieces if coated gum and each piece contains 18mg of CBD (there is another version with 12mg per piece).

Nice product, indeed, that taps into this emerging category with somehow blurred lines in terms of legislation.

You can see it here.

ABOAFSITE – Mexico 03/07/2018

I wanted to post about natural gum base since a long time.

This company, ABOAFSITE, produces and commercializes natural gum base, which is much in demand these days. You can check www.natural-chicle.net  .They claim all the healthy benefits of using a natural product. They can also produce the final chewing gum itself (private label). In fact some of the companies that I have mentioned in previous posts appear in their website: Humble and Co, Simply Gum, etc..).

The company supplies natural gum base in different formats (slab or powder) and versions (different molecular weight). The prices are also in the website.

There you can also find some interesting videos where you can see the real Sapotilla tree (where it all begun!!!) and some ideas and recipes to make different types of gum, always using their natural gum base. The natural claim is followed by a “non machinery” claim, which involves making the gum by hand. At the moment the market share of these chewing gum brands are tiny, but there are more and more players joining the wave and some of them a getting bigger. Then manual production will be a limitation and machinery needs to be considered if relevant amounts have to produced.

I hope you find this interesting, as this is one of the most powerful trends in the market today. Not only in the chewing gum industry, but in the whole food products: Everybody goes crazy for “Natural”, which is automatically associated with “Healthy” (something that I am not sure always works….).

MASTER CHEWING GUM – Lebanon 07/06/2018

Do you know what mastic is? If you are from the Middle East, I am sure you know. Outside this region, this traditional resin (from the Pristacia Lentiscus) is not so well-known. This chewable resin with a slight bitter intial taste has been used for ages. In fact the word “mastication” comes from this name.

I wanted to talk today about the lebanese company “Master Chewing Gum”, founded back in the 60s.

They have developed a lot during these years, of course, and are now well-established as one of the leaders in their region.

Among their range of products (and also offer for Private label production), I wanted to mention this one which relates to Mastic:

“Created in 2015 as part of the Strategic Business Unit of MCGC, MASTIKA is the first uncoated, sugar free and aspartame free mastic flavored chewing gum in the MENA region and thus in the world.
It is presented in a sophisticated, oriental pop packaging that reflects the high quality of the product while giving it a nostalgic nod. “

The company has also more “common” chewing gums… or wait! maybe not so common, because their brand “Cheque Gourmet Gum” offers a range of sophisticated flavours such: “Birthday cake”, “Mojito”, “Liquorice” and “Frozen Lemonade”. They are sugarfree and aspartame free. You can learn more using the link to the website above.

BAZOOKA CANDY BRANDS – USA 06/06/2018

TOPPS is a company founded in Brooklyn, NY in 1938. It is associated with baseball trade cards (and also other sport cards). However, it started in the gum industry not much later, in 1947, with the brand “BAZOOKA” to compete with Fleer’s “Dubble bubble”. Bazooka became a common name for bubble gum and I still use it sometimes to refer to the cut&wrap format. They also commercialized bubble gum baseball cards. These are a flat sheet of pink gum printed with some figures on it.

Learn more about TOPPS in their website

Coming back to the Bazooka, now this Division of Topps is called Bazooka Candy Brands and is specialist in “funny” candies/toys/seasonal products. I find all of them really interesting because move away from the traditional presentations and show a high level of innovation and “out-of-the-box” thinking. Some weeks ago, they launched the “Juicy Drop Gum”. This is a piece of cut&wrap (“Bazooka”!) which comes with a small bottle of sour gel. The idea is that the consumer (this is targeted to kids) pours some of this gel on the groove that the gum piece has on the top surface. Then it is chewed all together. Of course, this creates an explosive impact so it is intended for those looking for strong experiences (!).
