MD’E GUM – Italy 22/05/2018

The italian company SINTAL GROUP offers in their portoflio an interesting range of food supplements, but the ones of interest for us are the functional gums that come under the brand “MD’E GUM” (www.gumde.eu). Using the tabletting technology, which avoids the typical high temperatures of the traditional extrusion production method, they have a complete range of varieties, which includes:

  • Boost immuno gum: non viable lactic ferments + Echinacea angustifolia + Zn
  • ACE family gum: A, C, E
  • Chol control gum: Red Yest rice, betaine, B6, B12
  • New Folic gum: Folic acid
  • Anti Ageing gum: C, E, resveratrol, CoQ10
  • No stress gum: L-Tryptophan, Lemon balm, scullap herb
  • Diet Plan: Bitter orange, garcinia, gymnema, griphonia
  • Body Drain gum: Orthosiphon, green tea, pinneaple (bromelain)
  • Omega Gum: DHA, EPA
  • Energy Gum: Caffeine (200mg per serving, which consists of 4 pieces of gum

The chew of the product is good, avoiding the crumbliness of some tabletted gums that I have seen in the market. The information related to the products contains data related to the release of the active ingredients, which enhances the reliability and professionality of the product.

Continuing with functional gums, some days ago I found this interesting example from Israel. The company (Supherb) has been manufacturing dietary supplements for over fiteen years, but recently decided to use chewing gum as a delivery system for such supplements. They launched the brand “Tab in Gum” (www.tabingum.com) for this purpose. One of the most interesting claims of this product is that it may contain up to 800mg of active ingredients, which is more than other functional chewing gums in the market. The company also claims that the active ingredient is released inside the mouth within 45 seconds. This gum does not use a tabletting technology (which seems to be the most common way to produce functional gums) and the product is coated.

The product is presented in different varieties:

  • MultiVitamin, for Kids: With Ca, C, B3, Zn, Fe, Mn, B1, B2, folic acid, biotin, Cr, B12, A, D3, E
  • Iron 30mg. For anaemia.
  • Ginger + B6. For sea sickness/nausea
  • Cranberries + Vit C. for urinary tract infection
  • Winter : With elderberry, astragalus, vit C, liquorice and Zn. For immune system enhancement

I have been silent for a while, but now I am happy to come back with one of my favorite subjects: Functional Gum.

See what I found in a pharmacy next to my home:

Chicle saciante WUG chicle relajante WUG chicle vital WUG

3 interesting functional gums:

“Satiant gum”: Appetite suppresant gum or also labelled as “Diet gum” containing FOS (Fructooligosacharides) and CGMP (CaseinGlucoMacroPeptide). It is tabletted gum (not so many in the market!)

“Relaxing gum”: It claims that it helps sleep, promotes resting and treats occasional insomnia. Formulated with valerian, tryptophan, lemon balm and melatonin. This is also tabletted. It has the characteristic texture of this type of gum.

“Vital gum”: Also labelled as “After party”. It says to promote alertness and reduce mental tiredness. It contains Pineapple extract, Vitamin C, B6 and B12, guarana extract and lycopene. This one is coated which makes it a bit different from the others.

The company which markets the gum is WUGum. The website is www.wugum.com

According to the web, there is also a gum that helps you getting tanned, but I did not find this one in the pharmacy. It is formulated with Betacaronte, lycopene and vitamins C, D3 and E. “Bronze gum”.

GUM AND VITAMINS 19/06/2014

Today I want to talk about a functional gum. You know I have special interest on all these gums that provide some added benefits, so I am eager to taste and to talk about them.

VitamingumĀ® , from the USA, comes in two different versions:

– VITAMINGUM Fresh. This product is packed in blisters with 12 coated pillows each. It comes in three flavors (cinnamon, spearmint and peppermint) and contains 12 vitamins (!). They make up to 10% of the Recommended Daily Value (RDV) per serving. The vitamins are A, C, D, E and a range of Bs, plus folic acid and BiotinThe taste has good lasting and the chew is nice.

-VITAMINGUM Sport. This one comes in hollow balls packed in flow pack (each pack contains 4 balls) or in pouches containing 18 balls. There are three different flavors (grape, raspberry and bubble gum). The chew is surprisingly soft for a hollow ball and the cud volume is really big. It contains 25% of the RDV of the same vitamins as Vitamingum, so it is the “stronger version” of the former. In theory, by chewing only 4 of these balls per day, we can get the level of vitamins that is recommended.

Both products use Sucralose and Neotame as sweeteners and, in fact, use the claim of being “Aspartame free”.

It has been in the market for some time already, so it not really a new launching, but it is, anyway, a good example of how to make good functional products.

The product is based on a patent and sold by the company Vitaball, Inc. from Kentucky, and you can learn more in their website: www.chewvitamingum.comĀ

Chewing gum against common cold. 20/05/2013

Confectionerynews.com informs about a new gum designed by the Danish company Fertin which claims to enhance immunity and so preventing common cold.

The gum contains:

30mg of vitamin C

3,3 mg zinc

13,56 mg Echinacea

The first two ingredients have claims for immunity accepted by European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), but not the last one.

Fertin is the leading company worldwide in functional and pharmaceutical gum. They are fully specialized in this attractive niche market since many years and have done a lot of research and patents. In this case, this product is presented in the dry version, this is tabletted (compressed) gum instead of the extruded way. Tabletting gum has certain advantages (lower processing temperature, no interaction with water, etc.) versus the more traditional production method via extrusion. In general this is the most viable way for many functional gums because the tableting process is less aggressive to the sometimes fragile active ingredient.

Those of you that have been reading my web for a while know that I have a special interest on any functional gum that appears on the market and any research around that. So i am happy each time I can share one of these with you. You can read the article in this link
